Zirconia Crowns
Zirconium is a silvery-white solid metal under normal conditions. In dentistry, zirconium dioxide (zirconia), a white crystal mineral of zirconium, is used as an aesthetic and tissue-friendly material. Its fracture resistance is higher than full ceramics, so it can be used safely on both anterior and posterior teeth. The gray reflection that occurs at the gingival junction in metal-supported veneers does not occur in tooth-colored zirconia veneers. Zirconia crowns can be used safely in individuals who are allergic to metals used in dental alloys.
Zirconia crowns are used in teeth with discoloration and deformity, excessive loss of material due to caries or fractures, to complete missing teeth with fixed prostheses. For its construction, the teeth are prepared according to the thickness of the zirconia coating. After preparation, a precise impression is taken and sent to the technician for production. Thanks to the developing technology, it can be produced in a shorter time than before. Usually, after 1 or 2 appointments, zirconia crowns are ready to be bonded to the teeth.
The color of zirconia crowns does not change over time. They can be used for a long time without any problems as long as oral care is taken care of and regular controls are made.
